Public Life

Dr. Vijay is In-Charge, Department of Foreign Affairs of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) since November 2014. In this role, he is responsible for coordinating with the Indian Diaspora worldwide through BJP’s global outreach platform, Overseas Friends of BJP (OFBJP). OFBJP has chapters in more than 40 countries and is comprised of well-wishers of BJP.

Education and Career

Dr. Vijay holds a Ph.D. (Microbiology) from the University of Pune, India, and has four years experience as a Post Doctoral Fellow at the National Institutes of Health, USA. He has attended the executive management program at the Indian Institute of Management, Bangalore, and a leadership development program at London Business School.

Before venturing into active politics, Dr. Vijay worked for 18 years at the senior management level in Torrent Pharmaceuticals Ltd, Ahmedabad. His last held role in the organization was that of Vice President (Discovery Research). His areas of expertise were new drug discovery and R&D portfolio management. Three molecules developed by him and his team during his tenure there are in various stages of clinical development. In 2014, Dr. Vijay took a sabbatical from his fulfilling work in pharmaceutical research and development to participate in the Lok Sabha election campaign. He was stationed at the BJP Headquarters in New Delhi to oversee the campaign efforts at this time.

Interaction with the Indian Diaspora is a key component of Prime Minister Modi’s overseas visits, and Dr. Vijay spearheads the vital function of coordinating community receptions for the PM across the globe. In his key position as In-Charge of the Foreign Affairs Department of the BJP, he interacts with foreign embassies, diplomats, and delegates of various countries to effectively communicate party perspectives on issues of mutual interest.

He has delivered talks at international scientific conferences and is also a regular columnist on various national and international issues. His columns appear in notable publications like The Asian Age, Indian Express, The Print, The Quint, and vernacular media.
He is the co-editor of two books entitled “Hindutva in Present Context” (2009) and “The Modi Doctrine: New Paradigms in India’s Foreign Policy” (August 2016 ), which feature a foreword by former Finance Minister Arun Jaitley and were released by former Minister of External Affairs Sushma Swaraj.

Personal

Dr. Vijay’s wife, Dr. Jyoti, holds a Ph.D. (Biochemistry) and is a social activist. His daughter, Prerita, works for a social media initiative.
